MOST. POWERFUL. FILM. EVER.

And i am not even a narnia fan.
Not even a fan of its genre: fantasy.
On the contrary, i actually dont like fantasy, mainly because i dont understand it or the need for it.
Anyhows, I ended up watching this movie with Chanelle and Joshua. L today @ Vivo.
WHOA.
Life-Changing flick man.
At first, i walked into the cinema with the, "i-am-only-here-for-the-free-poprcorn-and-am-not-going-to-get-anything" mentality.
So... for the first few minutes, popcorn and cheesy hotdogs were my only entertainment. And then, the story suddenly got hold of me.
I stopped eating.
Eyes fixated on the screen.
I was glued to the screen.
Literally sitting at the edge of my seat.
Yeah sure, you know, i agree, if i were to judge it purely on the cinematography or just the motion picture alone, i would have been bored to tears. (who friggin cares about the 'prisoners' taken by some green mist..???)
BUT.
It was the message behind the story that got a hold on me.
It was such a powerful message, with (for once) understandable and easy to spot symbols guilding you through the story, and leading you to the underlying meaning and theme of the story.
It was mainly such a good film for me because i felt it really mirrored the recent events in my life.
So... it made a lot of sense to me.
To me (in general) the show's about the growth in a person's spiritual life.
How God takes each and everyone of us through very difficult parts of the journey based on where we already are in it.
It speaks of the greatest battle that ever took place and is still taking place: Good vs Evil.
What i truly like about this film is the fact that it creates a visualisation of a reality that is invisible to us, humans. ( LIKE FINALLY)
Its like for once i can see the unsee-able.
The green mist of evil, used to personify the demons around us that feed us the evil thoughts in our head.
It really makes you realise the gravity of the situation.
What really is taking place everyday, which sometimes i think we are too immune or too blinded to or even too ignorant of simple because we cannot see it.
The battle of good and evil isnt cliche, its reality.
And its taking place every single day, every waking moment.
And our bodies are the living battlefields.
Wow... really puts things into perspective eh?
Okay if you really dont understand what i am saying its alright.
I had no clue what the first 2 movies were about either.
But this one is just... whoa....
Ahh... its just sucha seriously good film.
Well okay maybe not a good good film like a highly original inception or a heart-wrenching+academy award winning soundtrack Titanic, but a very personal film for me.
Either way, go watch it.
No regrets.
I know i didn't.
And i dont even like fantasy or narnia.

And of course, as with all good posts, a song.

All narnia shows have great songs, so voyage of the dawn treader is no exception.
Love this song.
Feels.... so hopeful.

Museums + good co. = a happy me.

Dig my baggy pants.........? Got a lot of stares for it. Ha!

I am so happy! Haha
Because today, i finally visited the Philatelic Museum!
And i'd always wanted to visit the Philatelic Museum,
especially because of the current exhibition called, "The Originals of G.R Lambert". And no, this isnt some exhibition on Adam Lambert's Great grand father. (hmm actually it could be, you never know)
G.R Lambert was a german photog from Dresden, Germany. He came to Singapore and set up a photography studio in 18-something (cant remember what i read. ha!) He apparently became hugely successful and renown that even the British Empire and the King of Siam patronised his shop.
I wanted to go for this exhibition since..... before O Levels.
And it was one of the many things i said i would do after my O levels but only got round to actually doing it today.
Thank God the exhibition runs into the next year! (2 Jan 2011)
So you still have time if you want to go. ;)

I was first came to know about this when i saw a brochure about it.
And at that time when i first saw the brochure and well actually even up to now, I had and still have a sudden interest in the history of Singapore, and esp during the era when we were known as one of the Straits Settlements. So.... from 1800s-early 1900s.
So along with the many books i borrowed from the library about this topic, came the intense need to visit the Philatelic Museum.
I am so satisfied today. Haha. =)
Nat was great co. of course!
Not many people, my age esp, like to visit museums.
But not hips! She was fantastic co. =)
I. Heart. Museums.
PLUS, more incentive to visit the museums is the fact that students gain FREE ADMISSION!!! :D
I couldnt have been more overjoyed when i found that out today.
Yes yes call me cheapo but.... living in a city-state like Singapore where cost of living is as high as mt. everest and where 'fun' means an (often boring) movie with popcorn, i think my cause for being overjoyed is justified.

And honestly..... Museums are NOT boring. NOT BORING.
I wonder who came up with that misconception.
And even if you don't take history (like nat) you can stiil enjoy a visit to the museum! Seriously!
It's really really really interesting.
You learn a lot.
And learning, well at least in my book is never boring, never not interesting.
On the contrary, ironically, the reverse is true.
I think the museums (controlled by Singapore Heritage Board) have realised this problem and that's why it has come up with the latest 'marketing' strategy to promote museums. Have you seen this before?

Yeap, SHB's attempt to popularise museums.
An attempt to squeeze in museums into the fast-paced-high-entertainment-focused mainstream pop culture.
I think it borrows the idea of the I heart NYC thing.
But still, working or not, i think it's pretty cute and they should hire youths (LIKE ME :)))) Points to self) to be their embassadors.
Or maybe some popular young actor from mediacorp to promote it.
Could work.

Anyways, i've come to a conclusion.
I really like the City area.
And by City i mean City hall area, Raffles City, the Esplanade, Fullerton, Clarke Quay etc etc.....
It's so much x a billion to the power of a googleplex nicer than orchard (YAWN).
Orchard's so crowded and boring.
Same old shops, same old crowd.
Yawn yawn yawn.
But the city, ho, the city's so different.
More of a middle-aged crowd. Mainly English-speaking. Lotsa Tourists.
And wayyy less crowded than orchard.
Ahhhh......... just totally love the city.
I could walk around the city for an entire day and not get bored.
I mean just look at this!
The architecture of the buildings.....
So magnificent.

what a handsome building.

check out the detail.

And this is just one of the many buildings in the city that look like this.
Omg... i am so going back there.

On the way back, Nat and i passed by the Paranakan Museum too.

Next time maybe? (haha..)

Oh yes! one more thing.
Whilst waiting for Nat to arrive @ Raffles City today,
I came across this arts festival brochure (yeah i know, what's up with me and brochures right? haha) and the arts festival is called, "Fringe" presented by M1.
I flipped through and this blurb of a play caught my eye....

"A man stabs an MP at a Meet the People Session. But this is not their story.

It is the story of the man’s girlfriend, an Indonesian maid who wants to get married and become a Singapore citizen. It is the story of the MP’s wife, who tries to cope with her husband’s injury and the media spotlight. It is the story of the maid’s employer, who is also struggling with her own tragedy.

These 3 women may mean nothing to each other, but they need one another to survive. The maid, the employer and the MP’s wife. Are they all model citizens?

Director Alvin Tan and Playwright Haresh Sharma, who have been working together for more than two decades, return with another original, thought-provoking work."

Whoa right... i know. So i did the next best thing.
I waltzed up to the information counter at Raffles city which was also an anthorised sistic agent and bought me-self a ticket to the show.
For next year.
15th Jan 2011. 8pm. National Museum Singapore.
Going to watch a play by a local production is something i'd always wanted to do. So i am pretty stoked about that. ;)
The only well, 'problem', i guess is the fact that i am, for-the-moment watching it alone. :( Which doesnt exactly make for good co., only sometimes but i guess not really in this case. Who watches a play alone??
That's like going to a cinema and watching a movie alone.
Kinda sad. But on the other hand, quite refreshing, considering i have never done that in my life.
But i am still gonna ask around and see if anyone's interested.
And if you're a student, the ticket's only S$20 (inclusive of sistic booking fee)! Okay, now i know what you must be thinking, 'pris! that's twice the price of a movie ticket!' ah.. but you see, you are paying for a unique threatrical experience. (ohmyyy... i did not just say that)
No play, even the exact same play by the exact same cast, is the same.
Because no one can ever recreate actions exactly the same way as before.
We're not robots.
And it will be like..... watching a 'Live' Movie.
Come on..... admit it.
How cool is that....??
Plus! The storyline looks really interesting.
All the more reason to go.

Anyways, i have decided, i am gonna visit most museums in Singapore by the end of this holiday. Cause that for me is..... a true holiday.
Leisure-learning @ my own pace.
Ahhh............. now that's more like it. ;)

sundae musings...

'Courage and Confidence isn't quite the same.'
Just a random thought i had a few days ago.

Anyways, how's everyone? (and by everyone i mean really just me, because, well between me and you, i don't think anyone really reads this. wink. ;))

Anyways, i don't really know what this post is about.
I guess i am just making it up as i go along, as i always do.
I just felt like writing a blog post, so here i am.
Well, i was just thinking.......
mmmmm...
The world is really really really really different (and different i mean direct opposite) from God.
The world is really really warped.
Here's a fantastic eg: (just came to me today)
Philosophers.
One word, what do you think?
Great Minds, Intellectual Giants.
In short, you hold them in one of the highest esteems.
BUT.
Kay call me presumptuous, but i dare say 8/9 philosophers do not believe in God,
or at least 8/9 of whom i've read about.
They even reason to disproof God.
Friedrich Nietzsche. Karl Marx. Just to name a few.
The very people society holds in the highest of esteems deny the existence of God.
The very people society holds in the greatest respect deem the purest definition of Truth a lie.

"The fool says in his heart, 'there is no God'.." - Psalm 14:1

It's funny don't you think?
How different we view the world, people in particular, from the way God views the world.
Oh to see life through the eyes of God.
What a perspective that'll be.

Whoo hooo!!

Yippie!
I am so glad Rebecca Lim won Best Actress!
Sigh..
I always knew she had talent right from the moment the pupil started.
Her acting is so friggin natural for goodness sakes!
And btw that is rare.
Channel 8 actors are super dramatic.
Like they just don't feel real to life, ya know?

"I am Bored...!"

Here is a list of things you could do if you're are bored.

You could....

measure how fast you type! (although i would contest this and say that it is not a very good way to measure how fast one types when they are copying something as opposed to them typing what they want to say)

or

WATCH THIS TRAILER!

SO. CUTE. RIGHT. SMURFS!!! I AM SO GONNA WATCH IT.
I always thought Smurfs were cute.

4/5

The Social Network.
I think this was a pretty good movie.
Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield did a rather good job as Mark Zukerberg and his friend Eduardo plus both look so right for the role, both fit as well as glove on a hand.
I am so happy Andrew Garfield will be replacing Tobey Maguire as Spider-man in the next installment of the film. He's kinda cute and a really good actor.

Ta-da! If you had any trouble conjuring up a mental picture of him.
Anyways, back to the point that i was so happy that Andrew is replacing Tobey M....
I mean it's like..... Tobey M's face is always so stone-ish and he's so stoic when he is portraying Peter Parker/Spider-man in the film. It's like... sometimes when i am watching the films (spider-man 1,2,3) I feel like yelling, "YOU'RE NOT PORTRAYING LKY for goodness sakes..!! So stop being so stoic!! Move your face TOBSSSS....!!"
Okay, here's the perfect example.
Recall the scene in Spider-man 3 when P.P wants to propose to MJ at the French Restaurant.
MJ's like all sad because she just got dropped from broadway, saw her bf kiss gwen stacey as spider-man and to rub it in, Gwen stacey, P.P 'lab partner', comes over and gets all touchy with P.P.
So to this MJ responds something like, "..that was our kiss..."
Kristen Dunst who plays MJ shows exasperated face, which is apt.
"Do you want to push me away....??"
And to this Tobey M shows somewhat a bewildered-stonish face and says something like,
"Push you away... MJ I love you..."
Tobey M shows bewilderment for like maybe 1 nano second and then returns to his stone-ish face again.
Once again, emotional moment in spidey flick, ruin.

See.
Precisely, my point.
Anyways, I am just so glad Andrew.G is taking over.
After watching The Social Network, I am convinced he'll play a fantastic, wonderful, superhero-ish, and not to mention of FULL OF EMOTIONS, Peter Parker/Spidey.
Yeap.
3 cheers for Drew Garfield.

Beautifully composed by The Black Eyed Peas.

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Nigga, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With the ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' in the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

we are still searching for Love because we haven't found it.

and even when we have, we reject it because it isn't the way we understand love.
Then perhaps we had the wrong perception of Love right from the start.
It isn't about pure acceptance and it is about a certain kind of discrimination.
Refusing to accept evil and a discriminator of evil, this is Love.
Love isn't a pushover,
or a doormat you walk over.
Neither is it a big fat sloppy justification that covers all the injustice, evil, and pride in the world.
You're right, no one knows exactly what Love is.
Or rather, Who Love is.
Much of Love is still a mystery and perhaps forever will be to us.
But we do know this much,
that Love for our sake, died a most painful death, so that we might not have to.
So that we don't have to feel..... unloved, which is perhaps the most agonizing feeling in the universe of all universes.
But instead, to feel loved by Love itself.
Love is an overcomer,
not a passive sit-by-er that watches while all the evil around us swallows us up and envelopes us till we are eaten alive.
Love fights evil,
Not accepts it.
Love sets things right.
Love makes things right.
Love fights for Right.
Love is a Fighter, a Discriminator and an Overcomer.
Don't get it wrong.
