Anyways after that my bro and i went to the arena. Unfortunately, they said we couldn't disclose the results because it was pre-recorded. They even specifically said this " Don't go home and blog about this.." haha. So, well, i am gonna be a good student and do just that. All i can say is that we were up against Nanyang Girls High. Oh and they changed the host, from Adrian Pang to Jason Chan. Better on the eyes i would say. haha
Anyways this coming sunday, gonna play tennis. Oh. No. Tennis. Brings back bad memories of a deflated ego. Yup, but thankfully i learn from my mistakes and fast, hence this round i kept my mouth shut. Best thing i've done in ..... years? Maybe.
Whoa, haven't blogged in a long...... long .......long while. Its funny how i still see my visitor counter ticking nevertheless. Faithful readers. I applaud your faithfulness and perseverance. And it has paid of starting from now. Right here.
Today, is the 17th feb. No, today isn't my birthday. Its michele's.
But, today I received presents. Its nice to receive presents actually. It somehow makes you feel appreciated and worth someone's thought, effort and of course, money.
And all these, was done and given to me by my church mates. Awesome people.
My favourite present was the frisbee! I mean how cool is this thing? My very own frisbee. And this one's for real. It isn't one of those 'lao pok pok' one you get from the 'pa-sai-ma-lum'. Nope, this ones from, well at least it says "Made in USA". Not bad not bad. (Thanks Juni! And gang...)
So........... This is what i think about my Frisbee.
Juni said it was supposed to be purple. But whatever. I still like it. =)
I shall name it something, i know i am going to, just that i haven't thought of something worthy of it yet. Yes, yet because i will eventually name it.
Today. I had the most ridiculous time of my life with nat and vera. It was, indescribable. We actually filmed something, but however, in this rare case, i shan't put it on here. Why? Its embarrassing. Really it is.
So until the next time i post.
So long world! (no i am not going to die... just going back to school...)
heres something for the back to school blues. Its hilarious. A spoof of MTV's my crib.
no, that's not a typo. it really is just singapore. that's how they roll here (it's a city-state, i wikipedia'd it). no messing around. if you spit on the ground here, you can get arrested. for reals.
the day started with press, press, and more press. the cool thing though was that they had this press conference at a high school. i know, random, but they had this promotion thing where schools could enter a contest proving they loved switchfoot, and i guess this school won because they earned a lunchtime concert from jon. a couple local bands opened. it was good times. we then went to lunch where some people ate chickens feet, and some people imitated the photos on the wall. both were entertaining.
it was then back to the venue and soundcheck. romey was excited about it. we started calling him 'kimosabe' because of his sweet new shirt he got from this store called 'revoltage'. they made a pretty rad limited edition shirt for the show too with all these guitar pedals on it. legit.
after soundcheck, the guys did one more press thing for mtv asia where they actually had drew interview the rest of the band. he had the real mtv news mic and everything. i think he'd be a good veejay. i think they still have those...right?
the guys played a killer show tonight. its pretty amazing seeing a ton of people who live halfway across the world singing the same words in a another language. i don't think i'll forget it anytime soon. after the show, jon laid down a demo for a new song. not sure if it has a title yet, but it ruled. like a ruler.
SWITCHFOOT CONCERT. MAX PAVAILION 31st JANUARY 2008 7.30PM
The awesome night started off with 2 local bands and their opening act, the fire fight and west grand boulevard, followed by a short interval, and than SF finally coming on stage!
It truly was a night to remember.
I went there straight after my debate training.
It was really crowded. And we had to wear this bands around our left hand before we could get in. Mine was green, the colour code was according to the price of your ticket.
We waited for about 20mins before we were finally let in.
When we were finally let in, i went to the merch stand and bought 2 tees. They were really nice. Quite reasonable only $15 bucks each.
After which, we went into the concert hall it self. Oh but before that, before we could even enter, they thoroughly searched our bags as in open up our bags use torch light shine kind of search.
At first i was so worried, because i brought along my digital cam, but when they saw it the guy asked "Is that a digital cam or a vid cam?" I told him what it was. And he let me pass.
When the concert first started, i thought it wasnt really good. Cause i was sandwiched in between people. And the opening acts were, well, erm, really noisy? Like in concerts there is a good noisy and theres a bad noisy, theirs was well, erm nevermind. And the kickdrum was really heavy, like when each time the guy kicked you could like feel your heartbeat. Yes it was that strong.
Only after the 2 opening acts, and after i had switched position, i started to really enjoy the concert. The feeling of singing along with other fans was simply exhilarating. This is the first time i had ever been to a concert, and it was fantastic!
During the concert a few things that really got me really excited, as well as the crowd.
Heres a vid of it.
- Their mega long pause during the song, american dream. It was sooo cool, they held their positons for 1min over. Can you imagine? They were like almost becoming statues!
- Jon's signature cymbal bashing during dirty 2nd hands. Most singers go crazy and totally whacked, but jon was insync with the music. How cool is that?
- Jon's signature yelling-into-his- guitar thing.
The song lineup was as follows: ( if i am remember correctly..)
1. Oh! Gravity 2. Stars 3. This is your life 4. Ammunition 5. We are one tonight 6. The Shadow Proves the Sunshines 7. Only one 8. Learning to Breathe 9. Dirty Second hands 10. On Fire 11. Awakening
Band pretends to exit. Than comes back.
12. twenty-four 13. Dare you to move.
I know they also sang meant to live, but i forgot when.
So after the superbly-awesome-magnificent-fantastic concert. There was an autograph session. I think it was really nice of SF to have an autograph session just for the fans. I mean, not many bands do this, and it is really tiring to have to play a whole show and still have to sign your name numerously over and over again. Whats more when i met em, they were so warm and friendly!
I wanted so much to get chad's drumstick, but unfortunately, the other concert goers in front of me stole my idea. =( sadly... I saw 3 people walk out with a drumstick each. :( sigh and i wasnt one of em.
Oh well, anyways, this was the line-up. And heres how the conversations went.
Security man : Which item you want them to sign?
Me: What only 1 item? can two?
Security man: No 1 item only.
( I show him my ticket)
Me: This one, my ticket.
Security man: Ok.
Me: Hi (smiles)
Jerome: Hey! (smiles)
(Signs my ticket as i take his picture)
I move onto to drew.
Me: Hey! Your the funny guy on the podcast.
Drew smiles.
Jon (next to him) Laughs
Jon: Yeah his the funny guy!
Drew: yeah, i am the funny guy (signs ticket)
Gives a rad pose as i take his pic
I move onto jon.
Me: And your the guy with lots of theories!
Jon smiles modestly and signs ticket while i take his pic.
Jon: Hey, how's it going, whats your name?
Extends hand to shake mine.
Me: I am Priscilla.
Shakes hand.
I smile. He smiles.
I move onto Tim.
Tim: Hey! Whats up.
Extends hand
Me: Hi, i am priscilla.
I shake his hand.
Signs ticket while i take his pic.
I move onto chad.
Me: Hi!
Chad: hey!
Signs my ticket.
Me: Can i have your drumstick?
Chad: Oh, sorry i don't have anymore.
Me: oh, ok. Thanks.
I leave.
It was an awesome experience meeting the guys, they were so friendly, especially, drew, jon and tim. Jon and tim both shaked my hand.
All in all, i had the most switchteey-experience ever!
And i hope they come back again.
The experience was so much more worth it than the S$83 i paid.
- i think somewhere down the line, the tan's and the lim's met.
I am not going to tell you how the rubik's cube came about because i believe you can access the net and search about the history of the cube and stuff like that. Instead, i am going to tell you how i got my own rubik's cube.
It all started, yesterday.
Yesterday on msn, nat asked if i was doing anything. I said i wasn't. Than she told me she'll be in church with her mom for some elderly meeting of the ladies of our church. It sounded interesting.... haha. Ok, maybe not interesting interesting but well, interesting nevertheless. So i said why not. Ok that wasn't exactly what i said but you get what i mean.
So off i went to church with my bro.
When i reached, i was surprised i was early. I waited not long maybe about 25mins, before nat arrived. Oh, oh but before that, i helped this old lady who was carrying something really heavy. And boy was it heavy. So i am glad i helped her. Anyways, it turned out that the old lady was attending the same meeting as i was. Well, kind of. So than nat and i went up and i got to hold her precious SLR. It was magnificent. It had a particular sound when you took a shot. And i loved it. Oh no, don't worry i am not coveting. =) Just describing.
Other than taking a few shots here there and everywhere, we also helped them set up the dvd and TV, ate some food, and yeah thats about it.
After the meeting, nat and i went to vivo. Walked around, talked. You know the stuff you do at vivo. Than after that, we went into Toys R Us and behold i saw the ..... RUBIK'S CUBE!!!!
Yes. It was love at first sight. But sadly, monetary issues kept us apart. I didn't bring enough money that day, hence i would have to come back the next day, which is today to buy it. Separation was tough but it was meant to be.
So after that, nat and i meant her sis and her mom for dinner. What lovely people. The dinner was great. The ambiance was pretty. And the people were lovely. Like i said. We ate at this jap restaurant downstairs vivo @ B1 which i never knew existed. It was cool. I ate Suba something-something, which actually in english was mackerel.
After we were done, the waitress came to us with the bill. Nat dared me to ask her why the whole crew would yell something in jap whenever someone entered. The exact words? " I dare you to ask her what she saying, if you dare i'll buy for you the rubik's cube." Suddenly, the dare sounded interesting. And to cut the long story short, i did. I dared. And that is how i got my lovely little 3 by 3 cube. Its the best thing ever. Best puzzle ever. Better than soduku (which isnt even fun) , scrabble, word puzzles, you name it.
What attracts you most to it, is that the more you play with it the more you want to play with it. The more determined you become. Mr. Rubik sure was a genius to invent something like that.
At the moment, i can only solve one side. I cannot solve all at one go. But i soon hope to be able to. And of possible the world record holder. =)
These darker shots are 'darken' by nat. Shes the best. =)
The Shadow of friendship. OR. we are 'dai lao ban'. hmm i prefer 'dai lao ban' cause thats what i am gonna be.
My 'high class' gummy bears. I bought em from cocoa trees. (the shop of course.)
Best foot forward.
Whoa.. i just realized this is post 99! Almost a 100! whee... 1 more to a 100. Hmm.... i have been pretty slack in blogging lately, but you can't blame me for that because i have been really busy last week and the week before. School just started and apparently, i am still adjusting. Well, at least i write the year as 2008 now. =) Anyways, i also realized that it just isn't blogging that i have been slacking in, its well, almost EVERYTHING. Like, i just don't feel like doing anything school-related besides my CCA's band and debate now. (yes, i dolike band. Weird though, its like i grew-to-like kind of thing, inky yes i know, but its true. Perheps its the friends and bonds you form unconsciously and you only realize it when you stop going. Like for eg, last week i missed all my band trainings for debate as there was a competition, in which we didn't even win ( more on that later.. and yes a bracket in a bracket, don't you learn algebra?!?) I felt so, so, so musically deprived. Yes, there is such a thing.
Oh and speaking of the debate comp (yes, ms hia this is for you... you better read it.) It was so... well discouraging, because you put in so much effort but you just don't see the results. Results, results, results. Thats what i need. But what i have been having is, (instead) processes, processes, processes. Hmm... maybe now is the process period. Not the results period. And it seems as though sometimes its never ending. Well, thats when you practice this " When the going gets tough, the tough get going". Hmm... but i am curious (this is my 2nd hmm already...i need more expressions) what if you aren't tough, does that mean you don't get going?? Maybe. (2nd time i am using maybe.) Maybe not. (3rd) I am not so sure. But what i am sure of is, when i talk alot, and express things aloud or rather outloud, I process better. No process as in think. Which is why in debate. Never ask me to brainstorm. I usually dont get anything. Mainly because we don't talk and whats more have to remain silent. Wow. An amazing feat. I wonder how debaters do that. Anyway, back to the point (its a amazing how far i can drift from the point, which is.... see you forgot, i really drifted.... the point is about the debate comp... haha, do i hear a "oh yeah..."??, if not, than your memory's just as bad as mind. Good, we're in the same boat. But unfortunately, its sinking....) ANYWAYS... (before i start drifting again...) Debate Comp. Hmm.... well, all i know is that i really really really tried my best. And to be honest, i am proud of myself. I can say in full confidence, that i did my best and there was nothing i could do to make my performance better. But don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean that i will not improve. Of course i will. Even Rachel Kwai (or however you spell it... oh and FYI shes the best debater according to everyone except me cause i really haven't heard her speak... yet.) has room for improvement!
Yeah but the day past really fast. The schools we faced were RI and Xin Min to both we fell to. Sadly. But it was interesting. Once again, it was an interesting process or also known as exposure or what ever you call it.
Anyways, on a lighter note, here are some pics of jamie's birthday. Er, they are above. Too lazy to bring em down.
